Do What You Say You Are Going To Do

Some old ideas that could help newer problems regarding teen apathy.

There are many old lessons that still hold water. One of them is:

Do what you say you are going to do.

Do it on time.

Do it under budget.

We live in a time when teenagers think that lying on the couch, ordering a bacon egg and cheese sandwich with sweet potato fries for $28.99 from Doordash is normal.

It isn’t.

Perhaps one possible fix to get your teen to do things and then bask in the feeling of self accomplishment is lead them to where they need to go. If they can’t see it, they can’t be it. Show them how to cook and then let them do it. Creating on ones own builds real self esteem - the sense of accomplishment you got when you were little by fixing things or creating things can be recreated. Someone born in 2006 doesn’t have the same connection to creation / repair that you have. Show them. It’s worth a try.

Naturally I have a handy guide for $4.99 called “16 Ways to Jumpstart Your Disaffected, Phone Addicted Teenager”.

You can get it here:

The new site is live. It’s partially under construction, but I urge my children and students that you can’t wait for things to be perfect - get your work out there and run your business / project going. This will be the focus point for my plans going forward:

My teaching career began in September 1996. I have a lot to say - some if it is wonderful and some of it isn't. Practically everything you've heard about the school business is wrong. At this stage, I've basically seen it all.
